Hakata Gensuke, Sydney - Review

hakata gensuke ramen restaurant sydney

Situated in Regent Place shopping centre in Town Hall, Hakata Gensuke is Sydney’s newest ramen restaurant, promising rich umami Hakata-style ramen for Japanese food lovers.

Known by many as one of the most popular ramen restaurants in Melbourne, Hakata Gensuke has finally opened its doors in Sydney. So what should you expect when you visit Hakata Gensuke?

The ramen broth at Hakata Gensuke is made using a special “Yobimodoshi” (master stock) method and high quality pork bones, which makes for a flavourful soup! The ramen noodles are made in a temperature and humidity controlled environment to have the ultimate chewy texture - customers can also have their noodles cooked to their desired doneness for the perfect bowl of ramen.

We ordered two different ramen options - the Signature Tonkotsu ramen and the Black Garlic ramen - along with some Hakata style gyoza and chicken karaage. We found both soups to have a unique flavour reminiscent of your typical Hakata-style broths, which paired well with the fatty chasu and noodles. Come with an empty stomach, as these bowls will fill you up!

Some of the other options on the menu include the God Fire ramen, Shio Tonkotsu and Chasu rice bowls. Pricewise, ramen bowls here start at $20, which is relatively standard in comparison to other ramen places in the vicinity.

Overall, Hakata Gensuke is a must visit for ramen lovers looking to get a taste of Sydney’s newest ramen offering. Seating has a capacity of 40 people, so be prepared to wait in line!
