Nene Chicken, Parramatta - Review

original and snowing cheese fried chicken from nene parramatta

South Korean restaurant chain Nene Chicken has recently opened a new location in Western Sydney’s Westfield Parramatta, serving up Korean-style fried chicken and sides.

Located next to the cinemas with a small causal seating area, it’s a great location for enjoying a quick snack whilst out and about in Parramatta. Ordering at the counter is easy and efficient - Nene’s fried chicken comes in a variety of flavours, including bulgogi and an ominous ‘freaking hot’, which we can only imagine with burn our tastebuds off. We opted for a box of original flavoured wings, along with another box of snowing cheese seasoning.

While we enjoyed the novelty of the new store, there is a little room for improvement. The chicken batter was a bit of a let down - it didn’t have that light and crispy texture we’ve come to expect from Korean fried chicken. We would liken it more to fried chicken you would get from a local chicken shop, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you’re in hurry and just looking for a quick meal. The snowing cheese seasoning was a little too heavy for our liking, completely overpowering the taste of the chicken.

Korean fried chicken, and indeed Korean food in general, is more of a sit-down affair here in Sydney, so it’s presence as a fast food style restaurant makes it interesting and unique. The staff were friendly and the shop had nice decor. We can see this place becoming a staple for people in the area!
