Steam Brothers Coffee, Menai - Review

When you think of the Sutherland Shire, Menai probably isn’t be the first suburb to cross your mind… But this forgotten part of God’s country has some hidden gems, like Steam Brothers cafe.

Situated in the Menai Central shopping complex, Steam brothers has a minimalist Scandi vibe with sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The all-day menu has crowd favourites like burgers, avocado toast and eggs Benedict, along with a good selection of hot and cold drinks. Pricewise, Steam brothers is on par with other cafes in the area serving brunch-style food.

We ordered a selection of dishes, including the SB schnitzel sandwich, steak sandwich, potato rosti and hotcakes. The portions were very generous and full of fresh ingredients. We especially loved the sweet potato chips - they were super crispy and definitely up there with some of the best we’ve tasted! The only thing we’d note is that some of the other fried food was a bit oily - it probably needed a bit more draining before being popped onto the plate.

Lots of cafes nowadays are focusing on make dishes purely for aesthetics, so it was a refreshing change to have food that left us satisfied in the stomach rather than behind the camera. We wouldn’t necessarily travel for afar, but if you’re in the area, Steam Brothers is a great place to have a catch-up with family or friends.
