Best Restaurants in Western Sydney

Some people are convinced that to get the best food in Sydney, you'll need to travel to the CBD. We're here to say this isn't true! There are plenty of hidden gems around the suburbs of Western Sydney, you just need to know where to find them. Here are some of our favourite restaurants is the West.

Kanzo

There’s no shortage of Japanese restaurants in Sydney, but Kanzo is one of the best in the West. For those love saucy sushi, we love the cheesy chicken roll - think melted cheese, saucy chicken schnitzel and a slight smokey flavour from the blowtorching. Just make sure you eat this one while it’s hot and fresh, otherwise you’ll find the cheese starts to harden! And our absolute favourite at Kanzo - the grilled salmon roll. You can opt to replace the usual prawn filling with cooked tuna and avocado, which is a total game-changer. Nothing beats a huge sushi roll topped with saucy grilled salmon!

El Jannah

Charcoal chicken isn’t usually anything to write home about... Unless that chicken is from El Jannah! While we love their chicken here at El Jannah, we can’t deny that the star of the show is their famous garlic sauce. This isn’t any ordinary garlic sauce! It’s a secret recipe, packed full of flavour. We’ve tried many times to recreate the recipe ourselves, but it will never be as good.

AN Restaurant

There's only one thing on the menu here at AN Restaurant, and that's deliciously authentic Vietnamese pho soup. We huge fans of the rare beef, topped with their famous sate chilli sauce and a little bit of hoisin. Service is lightning fast, which is a godsend as there's always a crowd waiting out the front. These big bowls of soupy goodness are worth travelling for!

Air Lab

Fluffy pancakes are definitely a trending dessert right now, and the one’s at Air Lab in Cabramatta are perfectly cooked to be light and fluffy every time. We’re not sure how they make their creamy toppings, but we want the recipe! Almost mousse-like in texture, they definitely add an extra fluffy element to this dessert. You can watch your pancakes cook through the glass window, so you know they’re freshly made to order. At under $10 a serving, it’s one of the cheapest fluffy pancake option in Sydney!

Tuk Tuk

Sydney is swamped with Thai restaurants, but we keep coming back time and time again to Tuk Tuk in Canley Vales for delicious Thai and Laotian food. The dishes here are super authentic, and the restaurant decor is awesome too. If you're not a chilli lover, be aware that even the 'mild' here still has some spice (it wouldn't be authentic South East Asian food without a bit of chilli, would it!), so keep some water nearby!

Butter

UPDATE: Butter had closed their Parramatta location - you can still enjoy their Surry Hills and Chatswood locations though!

Part sneaker store, part restaurant, the main attraction here at Butter is American-style fried chicken with an edgy Japanese twist. If you’re after something decadent and quirky, go for the fried chicken and donut with maple syrup - just the right balance of sweet and savoury. We also love the OG chicken sandwich with its buttery bun and dashi butter, and the Laced Up shoestring fries reminded us of Japanese okonomiyaki.

Baja Bills

UPDATE: Baja Bills in unfortunately closed. We hope they reopen soon!

For those who are looking for something a little different to the usual food fare in Cabramatta, check out Baja Bills for a food truck feast with serious Mexican flavours. We can’t get enough of their loaded fries, which are a saucy, meaty, carb-filled mess that we would happily demolish any day. The also do great soft tacos as well!

Chololo

For foodies out there that have been living under a rock, birria tacos deliciously decadent fried tacos filled with cheese and tender slow-cooked meat. The main attraction here at Chololo is their birria tacos packs - 3 freshly grilled tacos with a little pot of rich dipping sauce. We loved watching the team preparing these tacos hot and fresh on the grill in front of customers. They’ve got a few other options on the menu, like creamy elotes corn cobs and ‘ramen’ birria, and there’s the option for vegetarian tacos as well.

Mikazuki

Mikazuki is the place to be when you’re in the mood for a hearty Japanese feed. The crowd favourite here is their sashimi tacos, along with their Signature Mikazuki Ramen, a tonkostu ramen bowl packed to the rafters with tasty toppings. We definitely recommend getting here early, as there’s usually a line!

Up late at night and have nowhere to go? Get yourself a supper snack at Viet Hoa Hot Bread, Cabramatta’s most famous bakery. Open all through the night, this Vietnamese institution known for serving up fresh and authentic banh mi rolls. There’s a whole bunch of options on the menu, but we can never go past the classic pork roll. Crispy bread, creamy mayo and pate, trio of pork meats, fresh salad, perfect seasonings - we love it all!
